For Claude Code, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI
The QNAP guidelines skill for AI coding assistants
An Agent Skill in English that tells an assistant what a QNAP NAS is before it answers: a RAM-disk root, BusyBox instead of GNU tools, no systemd and no package manager, settings behind getcfg and setcfg. It says what to write instead of the Ubuntu habit, where data lives, how QPKGs are built, signed and published, and what never to recommend: on your own Linux computer with QNAP's QDK, or inside Bucket & Code Server IDE, which ships the same skill and puts it into every project its wizard makes.
The zip's SHA-256: 5ae51f29e6c27c1a8d3dbc86cdb782133da24d5afabd0cfcd935247d9d28d7dd (qnap-skill-1.0.0-61.zip.sha256)
What is inside
SKILL.md with the rules and a table of which reference answers which task, and eleven references: the shell, what never to recommend, storage and paths, building, App Builder recipes, QPKG packages, code signing, App Center and repositories, ports, backups and kernel modules.
Where the facts come from
The NAS facts come from QNAP Club Poland's knowledge base on forum.qnap.net.pl, measured on QTS 6.1 and QuTS hero 6.0 units; each reference links its sources. The building, repository and signing facts come from Bucket & Code Server IDE's user guide, QNAP's QDK 2.5.0, and QPKGs built with QDK 2.5.0 on Ubuntu 24.04 for QTS 6.1 and QuTS hero 6.1 units.
Installing it
For Claude Code, unzip it into a project (the first line) or into your home folder for every project (the second):
unzip qnap-skill-1.0.0-61.zip -d .claude/skills/
unzip qnap-skill-1.0.0-61.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/
Codex CLI reads AGENTS.md, and Gemini CLI does once its settings name that file: add a line there that tells the assistant to read .claude/skills/qnap-dev/SKILL.md.
Code signing, stated plainly
- A certificate as files (
certificate,private_key,ca_certs): supported. QDK'sqbuildsigns the package, on your own computer or throughbvs qbuild. - A certificate on a hardware token (a USB key): not supported and not tested. The skill gives the facts of QDK's own route and says it was never run.
- No certificate: the package is unsigned. Other NAS units install it only if their owners allow apps without a valid digital signature, which the skill never recommends.
